Detox
The detox process is a necessary beginning
for anyone who is trying to start a life in recovery. A person
who has become addicted to drugs or alcohol must first rid
his/her physical body of the poisons and chemicals contained
in these drugs. In order to have a chance at sobriety, a person
needs to have a clear mind and healthy body. Although it is
possible to undergo the detox process in one's own home or
other safe location, it is suggested that any detox off substances
occurs within a medical facility. This is suggested because
although an unsupervised detox may result in sobriety, the
process is extremely unpredictable and therefore safer when
done with medical professionals.
During the detox process, most likely the
individual will go through withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms
will vary depending on the type and amount of the drug that
was taken. A person with multiple addictions may have multifaceted
symptoms whereas a person addicted to alcohol or prescription
drugs may have completely different feelings. In all cases,
patients within a medical setting are under constant supervision
and have access to pharmaceutical medicines if they are needed.
In addition, medically supervised detoxs help nurture the
ex-users back to life through structured nutrition plans.
Gulf Coast Rehab is a treatment facility
and does not offer on-premise detoxification services. Instead
our center has close relations with detox facilities in the
area that specialize in various types of detox services. Once
a person has gone through a medical detox, Gulf Coast can
then provide transport and treatment to the individual.
